In 2011, four provinces of the Daughters merged together to form the Province of St. Louise:  the Northeast Province based in Albany, NY; the Southeast Province in Emmitsburg, MD; the East Central Province in Evansville, IN; and the West Central Province in St. Louis.  The new province included all states east of the Rocky Mountains, as well as a house in Quebec, with the provincial house remaining in St. Louis.  This event marked the next step in the history of the Daughters in the United States

On July 31, 2011, Daughters of Charity gathered at the Baltimore Basilica for a Mass creating the new province.  The choice of location was symbolic as the first Cathedral in the United States and the city where Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton accepted her role as founder of a religious community.  The Mass was conducted by ____ and was attended by Sister Evelyn Franc, the Superioress General of the Daughters of Charity, who came from Paris; Sister Kathleen Appler, the General Councilor of the English-speaking world for the Daughters of Charity, who would go on to become the first American Superioress General of the community; and Father Patrick Griffin, CM, Director General of the Daughters.
